Responsibility is a central part of Akkukierrätys’ operations. In particular, the producer responsibility organisation emphasises environmental responsibility, as the purpose of producer responsibility systems is to ensure proper end-of-life management of batteries.
It is important to us that the materials in lead-acid batteries are recycled and processed into new raw materials. We aim to promote the circular economy and mitigate climate change through our activities. Through producer responsibility systems, our members can be confident that the batteries they sell are collected and recycled in an environmentally responsible manner. We continuously develop our operations with responsibility in mind.
Principles guiding our development
Our operational principles form the foundation for the responsible and sustainable development and management of Akkukierrätys’ activities. Our principles are fairness, responsibility, cooperation, cost-efficiency, and compliance with applicable laws. These principles are reflected in all our activities.
Akkukierrätys has prepared an internal control plan to continuously improve the quality of its operations in accordance with the principles of continuous improvement.
We assist our members in responsibility reporting by providing information on the environmental footprint of batteries. In addition, we keep members informed about new legal requirements through communication and updates. We seek cost-efficiency by collaborating with other battery and accumulator producer responsibility organisations and service providers.
Akkukierrätys’ partners are responsible for the collection of batteries in accordance with environmental legislation. Lead-acid batteries are hazardous waste, so it is always important to consider proper collection equipment, instructions, and the necessary permits during collection.
